OK, so I know most people would rather watch paint dry than talk to an adviser about a pension. The very mention of the word is generally guaranteed to make at least one eye glaze over whilst you struggle to retain focus with the other one, on what should be a really important part of your life.
But that’s the thing – whilst it should be important, it is traditionally the last thing we think about (after all, retirement is ages away isn’t it?) Until, in a flash, it’s not!
Forget that a pension is a product that you don’t really understand and just think about what a pot of money can do for you when you don’t want to work anymore. Haven’t we all had that conversation with our loved ones about what we would do with a lottery win?
Fingers crossed we all win the lottery…. but for now, why not ‘make your own luck’.
Start looking at what sort of pot you need to get the ‘retirement win’ you deserve. You might be pleasantly surprised with what you have built up so far and only need minor tweaks to get the 24hr chef and Aston Martin. On the other hand, you might find that you will need to acquire a new found liking for days in front of the telly and beans on toast but either way, you can work on it.
Make pensions your friend – learn to love what they can do for you. And if you need some help in finding it interesting or don’t know where to start, feel free to get in touch.
